TEMPLE OF VENUS GENITRIX

Constructed at the bottom of the piazza, it was erected upon a vow by Caesar before the Farsalo battle (48 B.C.) and it was inaugurated in 46 B.C. It was a true museum of antique and contemporary art and there were many works by celebrated artists- one being the gold portrait statue of Cleopatra.
