TRAJAN'S COLUMN

The 40 meter high column has around 2,500 figures representing various scenes from Trajan's victory over the Dacians and their king Decebalo. The artistic relief of the column is of exceptional quality. The ashes of Trajan are kept in the basement along with his memorabilia. The summit of the column originally held a statue of Trajan which was replaced by that of Saint Peter under the epoch of Pope Sisto V.
